Police found about 1,000 cannabis plants growing in a property in Nottingham when they responded to a 999 call in the early hours of Christmas Day.
Officers were called to Glapton Lane in Clifton after three men were seen acting suspiciously, with one holding a crowbar.
Police chased the suspects before three men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped for burglary.
The property where the cannabis was growing appeared to have been broken into, Nottinghamshire Police said.
Police appeal
The burglary suspects - aged 25, 31 and 36 - were taken into custody for questioning and later bailed for further inquiries to be carried out.
PC Anand Singh said: "Cannabis production is a serious crime that often brings with it associated offences like burglary, modern slavery and serious acts of violence.
"I would like to thank the 999 caller for alerting us to this incident and our inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."
Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
