Officers were called to the scene on Charleston Road at about 23:00 on Saturday.
The 43-year-old man was taken to the city's Ninewells hospital but died on Sunday morning.
Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind the death.
Det InspMark Lamont, of Dundee CID, said: 鈥淥ur thoughts are very much with the man鈥檚 family and friends at this very difficult time.
鈥淚 am appealing to the community to get in touch with us with any information they have.
"I would urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact us."
