New supported living flats to be built

Twenty new supported living apartments can be built on former industrial land outside Wolverhampton city centre, planners have agreed.

The accommodation is set to be divided between two buildings on the vacant brownfield site, on the corner of St Mark's Road and Stephenson Street in Chapel Ash.

Each building will have a communal lounge for shared residents' functions.

Planners were unsure of the exact history of the land, although an Ordnance Survey map showed there was housing on the site in 1885, and more recently warehousing in 1948.

According to designs, each apartment will have a hallway, living/dining room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

The vacant site will be developed by Shropshire-based Savannah Investments.

"There will be carers, admin staff and security on site", according to planning reports.
