Plans to turn a bungalow into a school for children with special educational needs have been put forward.

Hexagon Care Services wants to , Sunderland, into a school for up to 16 children with autism and other emotional and mental health needs.

The planning application made to Sunderland City Council said only minimal alterations would be needed to convert the house on Black Boy Road.

It would employ 10 people with children coming from the local area, the applicants said. A decision is due to be made by December.

"The pupils will be children who reside at children's homes located in close proximity or living at home with parents," the applicant said.

The company said it did not believe the site would negatively impact traffic in the area.
