Island residents save dolphins after mammals wash ashore
Local residents helped save the lives of three Risso dolphins after the mammals washed ashore on Orkney.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) said members of the public did an "incredible job" of administering first aid until medics arrived from the mainland.
The charity also thanked the RNLI in Kirkwall, Westray Coastguard team and medics who responded to the alert.
A spokesperson said: "With thanks to the residents and our medics all three dolphins were refloated back into the sea with no further signs of them the following morning."
