Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after A49 crash

A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after sustaining potentially life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A49.

Police and ambulance were called about 06:30 BST on Thursday to Ashton between Ludlow and Leominster, following reports of a collision between the bike and a van.

The van driver and passenger received medical treatment at the scene for injuries not thought to be serious.

West Mercia Police said the route had been closed for recovery and no arrests and been made.

Heavy traffic built up around the area between the A44 Mill Street and B4362 Station Road junctions.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it attended to three patients after being called to the incident.

The motorcyclist was given advanced trauma care before being taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, a spokesperson said.

The van driver and passenger were taken to Hereford County Hospital by ambulance for assessment, they added.
