Horse dies after crash with van
A dual-carriageway was closed for about six hours after a crash between a van and a loose horse.
Essex Police said the A127, eastbound, by Basildon, was shut between the junctions for the A1245 and the A132, in the direction towards Southend, from about 02:45 GMT to 08:30.
The driver of the van was uninjured, but the horse died at the scene.
"Other horses were also on the road but were thankfully uninjured," it added.
