'Predatory' rapist jailed after attacking two women

A man who raped a woman and sexually assaulted a second victim in the same night has been jailed.

Sean Spooner, 33, targeted both women in Cambridge in the early hours of 28 June 2022.

He was sentenced to 17 years at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday.

Cambridgeshire Police described him as "predatory" and as a "danger to women".

The force said Spooner had spoken to his first victim a few times that night, then later "began kissing her and became aggressive, touching her inappropriately, despite her asking him to stop".

Door staff ejected him from the venue. He raped his second victim in Market Square, who he had met earlier, at about 03:30 BST.

Spooner, of Castle Street, Cambridge, was found guilty of two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.

Det Sgt Elaine Penniket said: "Spooner鈥檚 predatory behaviour has left two women with lasting long-term psychological trauma.

"I would like to thank them for their bravery in helping support us with a prosecution and also appearing to give evidence in court."
