Fines issued after rubbish dumped on bridleway

A council has fined three people more than 拢700 after their household rubbish was dumped in a countryside bridleway.

The individuals, all from separate households in Wollaton in Nottingham, Derby, and Rotherham in South Yorkshire, had used the same waste carrier to take away their rubbish.

But instead of being properly disposed of, more than 20 bags of rubbish ended up strewn across a path off Loughborough Road in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire.

Investigators tracked down the households, and Rushcliffe Borough Council issued them with fines.

A fine was also issued to the carriers responsible for dumping the bags.

The authority said none of the individuals from the households involved had checked whether they were using a registered waste carrier and whether they would be transferring the rubbish to an authorised person, which is a legal requirement.

Rob Inglis, cabinet portfolio holder for environment and safety, said: "The waste carrier should hang their head in shame, fly-tipping items in this manner is never acceptable, and that鈥檚 why we took swift action with this penalty notice.

"If you鈥檙e a householder, remember to always check who you employ to dispose of your waste from your home, or you could also face a penalty notice, just as these three individuals have.

"Checking whether a waste carrier is registered before you employ them is playing your part to keep Rushcliffe free of this horrendous waste."
