Man, 80, who killed wife with pillow admits murder
A man from Stoke-on-Trent who told police he had suffocated his 73-year-old wife with a pillow has admitted her murder.
Peter Matthews from Weston Coyney called 999 on 22 March to say what he had done.
Carol Matthews was found dead at a property on Denton Grove, and her 80-year-old husband was arrested after being discharged from hospital.
Matthews pleaded guilty to murder at Stafford Crown Court on 11 July, and is set to be sentenced at the same court on 9 August.
"This was such a tragic case that has left the family devastated. I can鈥檛 begin to imagine what they are feeling," said Det Insp Lisa Holland.
"My thoughts, and the thoughts of the team that worked on this investigation, are still very much with them," the officer added.
