Armed police arrest man with weapon near primary school
Children at a primary school in Fife were taken inside for their safety as armed police arrested a man for carrying a weapon.
Police told teachers at Pitteuchar East Primary School in Glenrothes to take pupils into the building.
No one was hurt in the incident on Glendevon Road at about 08:30.
A 24-year-old man was arrested over possession of an offensive weapon. Officers said there was no threat to the public.
Head teacher, Jennifer Knussen, said all children were "safe and well".
She said: "There was a police incident in nearby streets this morning.
"We were asked by police to get all children into school and nursery as quickly as possible which we did."
Police Scotland confirmed that armed officers had been dispatched to the incident.
