Ambulance trust appoints interim chief

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) has appointed an interim chief executive.

The trust's current chief executive, Will Warrender, announced in September he intended to resign.

Dr John Martin, who will join from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) in December, has been appointed to the interim role.

The trust said recruitment for a substantive chief executive would start before the end of this year, with a permanent chief executive starting in August 2024.

Mr Martin is currently the chief paramedic officer at LAS and is an experienced executive board member, with clinical and operational experience across ambulance, acute, community and mental health services, SWASFT said.

Stephen Otter, SWASFT chair, said: 鈥淛ohn really impressed the interview panel with his operational and clinical leadership, and passion for people and patients which aligns with our values, behaviours, and trust strategy."
