Gas works to close part of main city road

A main road in Leicester is to partially close for five weeks while major gas works take place.
Gas supplier Cadent will replace 1,000m of pipes under Loughborough Road between 3 June and 14 July.
It said the upgrade - part of a 拢1.1bn investment - would "modernise" gas pipes that had been in operation for decades and "future-proof" the network.
The road will close southbound from the roundabout on the A563, Watermead Way to Melton Road.
The road will remain open northbound, and diversion signs will be in place to help ease congestion in the area.
Cadent said engineers would ensure that gas supplies stayed on during the works.
Richard Sansom, network director for Cadent in the East Midlands, said: "With gas pipes being decades old, it is essential that we replace them to future-proof our network and minimise the amount of repair work that we have to do in the area over the coming years.
"Keeping the people of Leicester warm in their homes is our number one priority.
鈥淲e understand the frustrations that this will cause to road users and residents, and we apologise for this."
Mr Sansom urged drivers to leave "a little bit more time for their journeys" during the works.
