Boy, 16, bailed after school lockdown

A teenager has been bailed after threats were allegedly made to two school pupils.

Armed police attended St Hild's Church of England School in Hartlepool on Monday, where students were kept behind locked doors for hours.

The school said it acted quickly to safeguard youngsters.

A 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill has been released on conditional bail.

Parents gathered outside the school on Monday evening in the King Oswy area of the town.

Children were gradually released from lockdown at a 17:00 GMT.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said the teenager was arrested at his home later the same day.

He was apprehended on suspicion of making threats to kill and offences under the malicious communications act.

Police investigations continue.
