A man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in a hotel room has been jailed for seven and a half years.

Andrew Peel, 48, of Pochard Close, in Bradford, attacked the girl at the Premier Inn, on Gower Street, Liverpool, on 21 February 2022.

He was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court earlier having been found guilty of the offence after a trial.

Det Con Claire McDonald of Merseyside Police described it as "an appalling and depraved sexual assault".

Peel, who was arrested on the same evening the offence took place, denied the offence but was found guilty following a six-day trial held in May.

Ms McDonald said Peel "prolonged the suffering" of his victim by denying the offence and "forcing her to relive her ordeal".

She added: "I would like to commend her for showing such strength and resolve throughout what was an extremely traumatic time, and we hope that today's sentence brings her some sense of justice as she continues to recover."
