Motorcyclists wrongly issued Aberdeen LEZ fines

Aberdeen City Council has apologised after some motorcyclists were wrongly issued with Low Emission Zone (LEZ) fines.

Motorbikes and mopeds are exempt from the LEZ, which came into force in the city centre at the start of the month.

The local authority confirmed that some bikers have received notifications of a 拢60 fine.

A spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience caused and said a cancellation could be requested .

"We are aware some motorcyclists may have been issued Low Emission Zone Enforcement Notices following the initial launch in Aberdeen," a statement said.

"We can confirm that motorcyclists are exempt from the Low Emission Zone and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"Any motorcycle that has received a notice can request its cancellation online."

The council said it was not yet able to confirm the number of motorcyclists involved.

Aberdeen and Edinburgh became the latest Scottish cities to enforce their LEZs on 1 June.

They joined Glasgow and Dundee in putting restrictions on the types of vehicles allowed in city centres to help to tackle air pollution.
