Radiographer struck off for racist language

A radiographer has been struck off after a tribunal found his misconduct had been racially motivated.

Steven P Lowe worked for Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust (DGFT) and had been accused of behaving in an inappropriate way towards colleagues, including using racist language.

The allegations dated between 2018 and 2020, and Lowe's case was heard by the (HCPTS), which deemed his fitness to practice was impaired due to his misconduct.

The hospital trust has been approached for a response.

Lowe had sent a photograph via WhatsApp in 2019 showing his work colleagues eating at a buffet with the caption "not an immigrant soup kitchen," stated HCPTS.

The radiographer also made derogatory comments about black, Asian and minority ethnic people that he worked with.

Lowe, who had been a departmental lead at Russells Hall Hospital, spoke to colleagues in an intimidating manner when they made mistakes, the tribunal, which was held in his absence, found.

The final hearing ended on 14 May.
