Wetlands | Woolston Eyes

Woolston Eyes is a superb wetland habitat which lies next to the Manchester Ship Canal and is virtually right underneath the M6 motorway.

This relatively new reserve was created in the early 1980's. It's a great place for bird watching, boasting elusive species such as the Black necked Grebe.

Wetlands are an absolute must for any self-respecting lover of nature. They are fantastically rich in wildlife with star species including otters and birds.

Essential kit:

Bring walking boots or Wellingtons as the site can be very muddy. Pond dipping - take a net and dipping kit.

Getting there:

Located just off junction 20 of the M6. Two miles from Warrington.

Car parking is restricted to the Lane - do not obstruct driveways or turnings.

A public footpath runs from the end of Weir Lane to Thelwall Lane. Access to other parts of the reserve is restricted to permit holders who can make use of the hides.

Charges:

Woolston Eyes is open to the public throughout the year free of charge. However for group visits and to get onto the islands you'll need to book in advance - the cost is £8 per person.
