But it is also the gateway to one of the best seabird experiences anywhere in the UK - Bempton Cliffs.

Bird watching - over 200,000 sea birds breed on the reserve April-August.

Ìý

Five safe viewpoints overlook colonies of birds including Puffins (April-July), Guillemots, Razorbills, Gannets, Kittiwakes and Fulmars between March and mid-August.

Ìý

Nature trail at cliff top.

The RSPB Yorkshire Belle takes about an hour to sail north to get to the cliffs. The full trip takes around three hours.

Essential kit:

Binoculars and protective hat. Be prepared for the noise and the smell of the birds. Bird identification book - RSPB book shop on site.

Ìý

There are refreshments on site on the cliff tops.

Best times for nature watching:

Between March and mid-August.

Access:

Two viewpoints at top of the cliffs - crushed limestone surface. Slightly restricted view in some places due to safety barriers.

Grandstand view: 200 m from visitor centre and car park - accessible by wheelchairs and pushchairs with care.

Adapted disabled toilet.

Getting there:

Four miles north of Bridlington. Cliff road from Bempton and follow the B1229 from Flamborough to Filey.

Bempton station is 1.5 miles away.

Bus service from Bridlington to Bempton. The nearest stop is in Bempton village - take the road northwards up the lane to the reserve. Walking time - 15 minutes.

Car parking on site.

Opening times:

The reserve is open year round. Visitor centre open 10am-5pm March-October plus 9.30am-4pm on winter weekends. Closed Christmas week.
