It's fair to say that the Manchester International Festival has been largely aimed at entertaining an adult audience. But what about the kids?

Every Action.. by Ockham's Razor

Well, slap bang in the middle of this festival fortnight, opened The Great Indoors - a weekend of 'pioneering interactive family entertainment,' at Manchester Central. (7 - 8 July 2007)

Having taken a look, the aim it seemed was to provide something for everyone: from exciting circus-type performances like the pyrotechnic Fuse by Cirque Bijou and the acrobatic Every Action... by Ockham's Razor; live action art from Jon Hicks; poetry from John Hegley; and intriguing voyeuristic theatre in The Living Room. And an Insect Circus Museum no less.

And over the two days, hundreds, if not thousands of families joined in the interactive play which included making a recycled garden for little artists and eat-your-own art for little chefs.

Festival Director Alex Poots said: "Far from being your standard family entertainment, The Great Indoors encapsulates everything that childhood should be about - invention discovery and creativity, embracing art and science and, above all, fun."
