Pottsy live | - David Potts plays Joshua Brooks on Sat 18 Nov, The Roadhouse on Fri 24 Nov and Night and Day on Wed 6 Dec

The infectious and edgy track is a tongue-in-cheek assault on the life of a deluded popstar, the self-obsessed celebrity that 'beam a supersonic smile'. Could it be about a certain other Mancunian? Possibly, but Pottsy's not saying. The EP is Potts' first post-RAM release and includes the beautifully jangly Beatles-esque Stop And Wonder, and reworkings of RAM鈥檚 cult classics, Different Planet and For Your Love. Both tracks received much praise and a loyal following, but that didn鈥檛 stop Potts deciding to take the solo route for his new songs, largely to give himself more creative freedom, as he explains:

"Setting up my own label means I can make the music I鈥檓 passionate about and get it out there. MySpace is a help and digital means that I can reach ex-Monaco fans in the States and Japan! "But I once worked in a record shop and think that being able to see and touch music is still magical, it somehow has more value, integrity and sounds better too! That鈥檚 why we鈥檝e done a limited white vinyl 7鈥 as well."

You can catch David Potts at several dates in Manchester over the next few weeks and thankfully he won鈥檛 look as battered as he does on I鈥檓 The Greatest鈥檚 cover. A play on Muhammad Ali鈥檚 claim to be "the greatest", it features Pottsy looking like he鈥檚 received a good kicking. Who knows, if the target for the song turns out to be the person we suspect it could be, he might yet get one! Hopefully not though. |
