Tom Hingley and the Lovers

Loving it

There鈥檚 busy times ahead for Tom Hingley. Not only is his band, The Lovers, putting the finishing touches to their second album, but his former group, Inspiral Carpets, have just announced some new dates. We grabbed him for a quick chat about it all.

"We鈥檙e very busy as we are writing a new album at the moment. We鈥檙e also rehearsing lots as most of the songs we are playing at Club Academy are new songs, so expect a new set."

How's it sounding?

"It鈥檚 more souly and less thrashy than Abba Are The Enemy, and there鈥檚 bigger more melodic moments. The truth is we aren鈥檛 as angry this time round."

Last time, you took on boy bands and drugs in your lyrics. Who's been targeted this time around?

"No one in particular, just the inner most secret parts of our hearts and desires. It鈥檚 all about love and belief this time round."

Rumour has it Denise Johnson is singing on it. How did she get involved?

"We asked her and she is top, so she sang on two songs. It was really great to have someone like her working on a demo track."

These are busy times for you, with new Inspirals dates announced. Are you looking forward to them?

"Yeah, they should be good as we are all getting on great nowadays."

Any plans to record some new Inspirals tracks?

"I don't know. We are all so busy with our own projects at the moment."
