How important is it to be playing Dpercussion?
| She's back: Jenna G |
"It’s important to me on so many levels. First and foremost it will be my first gig in Manchester for at least four years and its with my album For Lost Friends. Having travelled all over the country promoting it, it’s really annoying that my agent at the time didn’t book me any gigs in Manchester. This is obviously my home town and I have a fan base here. I miss it so much being down in London, so I’m really looking forward to it." Do you have any more gigs planned in Manchester? "I definitely want to do more gigs here. The main thing that makes it so hard in Manchester though is the live band set up. There aren't many promoters or venues left that either specialise in drum'n'bass or suit an independent band. I’ve been in London for the last year or so, but what I’ve heard from promoters is that venues are getting shut down, left, right and centre! So it all depends on that." How different is your solo work from Un-Cut? "I'm at my happiest in the studio or on stage behind a mic, writing tunes. Working on the radio also fits as I’m just playing tunes that I like." | Jenna G |
"The main difference is that it’s me on my own and its completely drum'n'bass. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. Leaving Uncut as well as being around a lot of drum'n'bass producers in London has given me the opportunity. Obviously I still write the songs, but it’s the production that's different. So if you like a good song and you like a good progression and content of an album, it’s similar in that sense to Uncut. However if you don’t like drum'n'bass, I’d say ‘borrow your friend's before you go out and buy it!’ Are you focusing on your singing career now? "I have been concentrating on singing since Uncut broke up. Everything does get my equal attention, just in spits and spats. So this week I’m focusing on the live gig and next week I’ll be back in London getting ready for 1Xtra on. So singing and presenting are at the top of my list at the moment, not so much acting lately. I am at my happiest in the studio, on a stage, behind a mic, writing tunes. Working on the radio also fits well as I’m just playing tunes that I like." What can we expect from you in the future? "I’ve been working with Futuristic and Future Lounge in Manchester, who I’ve had a relationship with for the past five years. They have just had a new album out and I’ve got a couple of songs on it as well as on their next album which is coming out in September. I will still be doing Radio on Saturday mornings for the next year or so. Music wise I’ll be working on my next solo album but I will also be working with the Shapeshifters. I wrote six tunes on their last album and I’ll be writing again and hopefully singing on their next one. I like to keep myself busy!" |
