Traffic
Traffic on a UK road

Esther’s Story

Driving in England is confusing. In England they drive on the other side of the road.

Esther

My name is Esther. I come from Israel and I have lived in Manchester for 3 years.Ìý I have a happy family of boys and girls.

The steering is on the other side and I have to look the other way because the traffic comes from the other direction.

On top of this the signs are not in my language. Also the map and the driving rules are not the same. But my husband is confident.

So the first summer we are in England my husband decided to rent a car, a car that I think is rubbish. Firstly it is a car for four people when our family is 8!

ÌýAnyway we all got in and started our first family outing in England. We travelled for a while and the children started to ask: ‘Mummy how long?’ ‘Mummy I can't move!’ ‘Mummy, when will we arrive at our outing?!’

Then my husband stopped to look at the map. We began to drive again and then we saw that the road we wanted was shut!

We turned the car around to change roads but he couldn't get off the round about. Round and round we went six times, everyone was laughing we finally got off the roundabout and I said ‘It is now time to go home.’

The children answered me ‘not bad’. It’s a very beautiful outing maybe we should put this outing in a ‘tourist book’.
