After years of trekking down the M62 to Warrington, IKEA shoppers now have their very own superstore in Greater Manchester offering its usual smorgasbord of 'must have' household accessories. The new Ashton IKEA store opens on Thursday 19 October on the corner of Wellington Rd and Oldham Rd creating 500 new jobs. It comes after two failed attempts to get permission to build a store in Stockport.听 Traffic fears IKEA's success lies in its ability to keep prices low by packing and shipping its items in flat packs. But anyone who has travelled to the Gemini Retail Park in Warrington knows that IKEA's huge popularity casts a huge shadow on the region's transport network. And now there are fears for the transport network around Ashton-under-Lyne, with police warning that if queues start causing traffic jams, they may have to close the Ashton junction of the M60.
