It is a big task to support an act like the Prodigy. Lucky for Audio Bullys, they have built up their own following, particularly with the instantly recognisable Shot You Down. They hit the spot with this Nancy Sinatra track, and due to the nature of their music, it had to be better live.

It was. Their set was littered with recognisable beats, and they looked set to do a great job of preparing the crowd for the main attraction. Disappointingly, halfway through the set they seemed to trail off a bit and lose interest. They did get back into their own towards the end though and they just need a few more trademark tracks like We Don’t Care to really make it as the Prodigy’s little brother.Ìý The main event was, in a word, brilliant. Keith and the boys were back in town for the night, and we truly felt special to be there. With hits spanning 15 years, you forget how many of their classic tracks you have come to love. I wasn’t sure about seeing them in such a big venue, but it really worked.Ìý Everyone there had their favourites – some the old skool Out of Space, others the more mainstream Firestarter and Smack My Bitch Up – and though the guys are a bit older now, they still had a massive presence.Ìý

Maxim is intense to the point of being scary, but most recognisably, Keith still sports his trademark hair spikes, and though he probably gets more tired these days, you would never tell.Ìý Back to School and Poison were true crowd pleasers – and don’t seem to have aged a day -Ìý while Charly brought nostalgia to some of the crowd, and formally introduced itself to others.Ìý Dance and house music really has the power to put the audience in the most jovial mood – from the little kid dancing on his dad’s shoulders with glow-sticks to the pregnant lady giving her all down my row. Fans have ultimate respect for the Prodigy; because they have the attitude, but are also somehow ‘nice’ – they gave the crowd what they wanted and they built each track up to just the right level before they let it go. Breathe was the perfect example, and with Firestarter, never has a title been so apt.Ìý Their encore was a great mix of old and new, and Out of Space provided the perfect ending, the one track that we were all waiting for to complete the magic. It took us back to the days of ravers in boiler suits and we loved every minute. |
