Coldplay
Coldplay

Coldplay at the Reebok Stadium - 10/10

Neil Simms (gig: 04/07/05)
While the musical possibilities are boundless for the biggest band in the world at present, there is nothing much they could do about terrible traffic conditions or inclement weather.

Many thousands were unable to make it and at first, it was slightly disconcerting to see so many empty spaces. On a chilly night, Coldplay produced a set that would have warmed the innards of an Eskimo and had the Bolton crowd dancing with abandon in the unanticipated gaps.

Square One preceded a thumping Politik to open the set and pretty soon weather woes and traffic traumas were left at the door. Having built up an illustrious collection of hits since the turn of the century, nearly every song was recognised from the opening chords. So when the familiar driving guitar indicated the arrival of Yellow, the crowd were in their element. An impassioned singalong justly followed.

With the number one album in 28 countries, uniting the continents, Coldplay can do no wrong and have evolved into the consummate live act. Chris Martin, as ebullient and charming as ever, bent lyrics to praise the fans, apologised for the rain and revealed a hitherto unexpressed love of Bolton.

A particular highlight was a speeded up ending to Clocks, as the band gradually increased the pace like an out of control record player until your foot ached from tapping, ending the only way possible, with a loud bang as if the said clock had fallen from a wall or the battery had exploded.

The crowd were really indulged for the closing song, Fix You. Playing it twice so that they could film a video for it as the new single, the song started quietly before building up to a climactic ending, a brace of fireworks soaring from the side of the stage. It was a fitting finale to what had been an electric show.

Went monday 4th july stood at front of stage no one infront of me, what a gig. Got very wet but very unreal to know everyone was behind me. Took great pitures on phone then some horrible person stole my phone, very upset.Waited two hours to get out of car park but everyone was singing and having good time.Next day couldn't walk for standing seven hours in cold rain but would do it again.

Hey, had a great trip up to Bolton on the tuesday all the way from Letchworth...But it was amazingly worth every second queing and getting wet in the rain! Its the first massive concert ive ever been to, and Coldplay were fantastic! Wish they'd have done Amsterdam but nemind. It felt like a dream come true when i saw not only one of my fav bands but 2 cos Doves were just supurb too!Plus when they filmed fix you i'll never forget the Atmoshere... seen the video now and i think it's cool. It's great as it brings back the memories everytime i see it!! hehe i even almost caught the disposable camara Martin had thrown into the audience, but two people infront did instead! Still,it's now over a month since the gig, but ive honestly not stopped talking about it since it was so brilliant! Got back at 5 in da morning the nxt day though! This is something i hope i never forget, i'd love to see them and Doves again!

IT WAS FABULOUS!!!!! lol, people didn't just sing along to yellow, they sang along to every single song that was played. even when that make trade fair advert came on the big screen with the song "what if" backing it. the whole stadium was singing, it gave me goosebumps.

What can I say...I'm still speachless...Absolutely THE best gig i've been to and I've been to hundreds. I too had a 2 hour wait to get out of the car park afterwards as I have walking difficulties and had to park at the Stadium...1st time at the Reebok so had no idea where disabled parking was. That said we just had a Coldplay singalong in the car for 2 hours...as did everyone around us so no worries. We did get there in plenty of time though, saw both supports...Ours was Doves, loved them too! Coldplay are deservedly THE biggest band of the moment without doubt and I agree...not an ego in sight - Probably the most humble and genuine band i've seen - Fantastic...now when are they coming back! (I'll even put up with that bloomin' rain again ;o) )

Quality show in a quality venue , all round 10/10 !

i thought access was brilliant in and out of the stadium, and the show that was put on was easily the best I've seen all summer and I've been to two festivals and the u2 and oasis headline gigs. the police told us all the alternative routes out of the area and if you opted for a car park on the outskirts of the stadium you got away easily, which any gigging regular would know already. Shell you have only yourself to blame! As for the traffic problems getting there, set off earlier and you won't miss it next time.

ciaran
thats much better

the gig was ok but as a massive coldplay fan i was a little disappointed. i felt that it was a bit of an error holding it at the reebok stadium as there are not as many public trnsport facilities as other venues in the area. and i can also guarantee that neil simms would not be giving it such a glowing write up if it had taken him 3 hours to get there and 2 hours just to get out of the carpark afterwards!and by the way oasis were amazing at the weekend, found the atmosphere loads better than the coldplay gig and not an ego in sight!

ROCKY ROBINSON ARE U A SECRET OASIS FAN

gor
rocky - why did you go then?

This was truly a phenomenal gig. After the tidy sounding Morning Runner and the most gorgeous set from Elbow, new songs proving to me, what a consistently fine band they are, came Coldplay. This was the second time I've seen them, and here, probably like U2, are a band at ease with the daunting size of stadiums. After Oasis on Saturday, who despite having the usual dickheads following them, were very good, it was nice to get a different slant on a quality rock band front man....Chris Martin's confidence over the past 6 years has grown tenfold. The set was majestic, from the opening Square One to Fix You, there was no let up on the songs, humility mixed with humour proving to be Martin's biggest selling point to the masses, with his voice stronger and clearer than ever. Their irresistible anthemic sound has proved that, sometimes, nice guys CAN come first.

Absolutely amazing gig!!!! Made up for what was a disappointing Oasis the night before in Manchester. Rocky Robinson needs to sort his head out!!!!!....and if they are a rubbish band why did you even go?

SHAMAS
unbelievable!! second time seen band- first time was at manchester academy, smaller venue - what a change. They were excellent then, but now - lost for words. Their ego's have'nt changed unlike those of oasis. The repsect they show for fans is loyal and true - A true british band that has conquered the world - phenomonal gig! wish i was going to the second night at bolton

Rocky Robinson
Rubbish band, rubbish gig!
