Comfort and joy

By Ronke Blatunji
In February 1998 I was nursing my 3rd daughter called Deborah who was a baby then (under one). When she was one I discovered that I was not feeling well so I reported the problem to my G.P. He referred me to the hospital for a scan.

On getting there they discovered I was carrying another baby in my womb, which was 33wks. I was shocked and couldn't believe it and the pain was too much. They advised me to come for an exercise so that the baby could be in the right position.

Three weeks later in March 1998 the baby was ready to come into the world, I was in hospital for three days in labour. I couldn't bear the pain any more so they wanted to operate to get the baby out.

At the moment of the operation the baby came out naturally, and was female. Then I said to myself, female again. Because I have three females already so I was expecting a male. I was upset, the baby girl was a surprise baby, which I didn't plan for. So they called her surprise baby girl.

I named her Comfort and everybody in the family calls her special girl (nickname). She was a loving and caring girl, she is growing up now and is in year two at St. Thomas’ Primary School.

Whenever I am upset about anything Comfort is always near me. Thank god for having a loving daughter.
