Princess | My name is Princess, I am from El Salvador. I have lived in England for about 3 years. I work as a missionary in a organisation called REMAR. REMAR’S work is a free rehabilitation program around the world, for needy people who have problems with drugs, alcohol, etc. I have worked in this ministry for 12 years. My experience in Remar is great because I can spend my time and my life in different countries and I am happy with my job. Now I frequent a course with the 91Èȱ¬ and practice English as well, because I need a better standard of English in order to help English people who come to the ministry with problems. |
Their problems are my problems Twelve years ago, I decided to put my past behind me. I was about to start university, I was going to be a teacher. I have always seen the problems on the streets such as homelessness, children sniffing glue, young people having problems with the police, mothers abandoning their children etc. But I was never able to offer any practical help. I am a Christian but religion was not enough to be of help. I know it is necessary to provide housing, clothing, food, in fact the basic requirements for a normal and simple life without expecting luxury, but also giving the people a better life. And, I don't have anything to offer only with the grace of the lord. I had heard of an organisation called REMAR. REMAR was founded in Spain in the early 1980’s by a man named Miguel Diez. This man had turned from a life of gambling through the teachings of the Lord, and he decided to devote his new life to the rehabilitation of people with social problems like him. Miguel Diez found the answer for his problems through Jesus Christ. This service was, and still is, entirely free, and provided shelter, food, clothes, and spiritual support those who needed such comforts. I phoned REMAR to give them my details and told them that, I would like to work alongside them. I heard nothing for 3 months until I received a phone call informing me that they required a woman volunteer to help support a young girl suffering from AIDS, as at that time , there were no other women working for REMAR in El Salvador, I ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE….. Since that time, I have served God and his subjects in this ministry in Guatemala, Panama, Portugal and now in the United Kingdom. In all these places, I have witnessed good and great changes in peoples’ lives. When these people suffer the real changes with God’s help and other people, and now in 54 countries REMAR can help totally free and needy people. Well, now my feeling is of full peace; because I believe I can spend time in and my life with other people, in whatever country, whatever colour or nationality. Their problems are my problems as well. |
