To explain, this is the award for the best mix selection, greatest hits or compilation by an artist from Manchester or a band with one or more members from Manchester in 2004.
The nominees were:
Mr Scruff – Keep It Solid Steel Vol. 1
Various – Ten From Ten
Verve – Singles (92-98)
and the winner is...
Mr Scruff's Keep It Solid Steel Vol. 1
Mr Scruff's Keep It Solid Steel Vol. 1
Having spun his vinyl for inordinate amounts of time in the depths of the Music Box at monthly tea and dance mash-up Keep It Unreal, Mr Scruff finally got round to stringing his magic selections together for posterity on his first mix CD, and what a fine selection it is.
As we said at the time, "The genius of Scruff has always been those choices, so Keep It Solid Steel sees Erykah Badu’s sublime Back In The Day rising out of the tight rhymes of Arsonists’ Flashback, the ultra fresh Mark Rae remix of Deadbeats’ Funky For You segueing into the headbobbing Dopest Verse by Madkap, and Twisted Nerve’s Little Miss Trinitron’s mangled noodler CPU Song standing back to back with Soul II Soul’s aging stripped beauty Fairplay."
Long may the Scruffster rule!

matt great choice!! well done Scruff!
Michaela Personally I thought Ten From Ten was the best CD, and the best track on that album was 'The More You Ignore Me' by Pioneers.
