Fair enough

Redbridge has become that latest borough to receive the Fairtrade stamp of approval. The Borough is the 20th in the capital to receive Fairtrade status helping London earn its title as the Fairtrade Capital of the world.

To achieve the grade the Borough had to prove its commitment to make Fairtrade goods and products readily available throughout the councils own offices and canteens as well as in shops, caf茅s, workplaces, tourist venues, schools and colleges.

What is Fairtrade?

  • Fairtrade ensures famers in the developing countries receive a fair price for their goods and products.
  • Products that carry the Fairtrade mark include coffee, tea, banana, chocolate, cocoa, juice, sugar and honey.
  • There are over 3,000 Fairtrade certified products for sale through retail and catering outlets in the UK.

Rebecca Haslam, Fairtrade Redbridge Chairperson, said, "By receiving the official accreditation, we hope to raise the profile of our work with community groups, businesses and schools to continue to help raise awareness of Fairtrade and increase it use and availability.

"By choosing Fairtrade products, we can all help provide a guaranteed income for producers."

Veronica Pasteur, Head of Campaigns at the Fairtrade Foundation congratulated the borough on achieving its Fairtrade status and in helping London become the world鈥檚 biggest Fairtrade city.

She said: "It's great that Redbridge joins 19 other Fairtrade boroughs and is working with them and others to push Fairtrade across the capital."
