In the sixth richest city in the world it is shameful that this is allowed to continue." Barking & Dagenham council says it鈥檚 already working to solve the problem of child poverty. Councillor Jeanne Alexander who is responsible for children鈥檚 services said: "Barking and Dagenham Council is actively ensuring that the number of children living in poverty is as low as possible. 鈥淲e are working closely with Jobcentre Plus and the voluntary sector on this...We also have a new debt management programme, which helps families to find a way out of the vicious cycle of debt." last updated: 28/10/2008 at 15:23 You are in: London > London Local > Barking and Dagenham > Community Life > Child poverty "shame" |
