A new map of the nation's health has been created, using data gathered from GP practices across the UK.

The report shows Bexley and Barking & Dagenham to have a higher proportion of patients with high obesity levels.

Obese 'hotspots'

The map, produced by Dr Foster Research, suggests 'particular obese hotspots' in Bexley where 9.1% of patients who've registered with a Doctor to be obese.

Barking & Dagenham has a similar problem with 9.3% of patients described as obese.

The researchers say their new report compares to a similar map published in 2006, and the problem across the country seems to be getting bigger.

A balanced diet?

Overweight

In some parts of the country more than one in ten patients is obese. Whilst it's the remote Shetland Isles where 15.5% of those registered with a GP are officially overweight.

Alex Young, from the research group Dr Foster Research, said: "we need to wait a few more years before we can say definitely that things are getting worse but there does seem to be a growing problem in some areas."

He continued: "we are seeing parts of the outlying regions being affected rather than just urban areas."
