Nilanthan Murddi Cabinet Member responsible for Safety and Cohesion in the borough Cllr Steve O'Connell said:听 鈥淐roydon Council strongly condemns the killing of Nilanthan Murddi, a 17-year-old teenager from Croydon, on Saturday (16.08.08) morning". "This random act of mindless violence has tragically cut short the life of a popular young man who had his whole future ahead of him." "We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to Nilanthan鈥檚 family at this very difficult time".
鈥淲e are working with the police as they investigate the events of Saturday morning."听 Nilanthan is the 23 teenager to be killed violently in the capital this year. A 30 year old man homeless labourer Steven Braithwaite has been charged with Nilanthan's murder. Local people are now being urged to come forward with any information they may have and to call the incident room on 020 8721 4066.
