As part of the ten-year-old 'Adopt the Barbican' scheme, students at Oaklands Secondary School in Bethnal Green have been enjoying a plethora of arts activities provided by the Barbican arts centre and听funded by the Mercer鈥檚 Company.. They included ballroom dancing classes, hosted by Ola and James Jordan from 91热爆's Strictly Come Dancing and beatboxing with internationally-acclaimed beatboxer, Hobbit. Some students also designed their own costumes and theatre sets, inspired by the Viktor and Rolf exhibition now at the Barbican. Patrice Canavan, headteacher of Oaklands School, told 91热爆 London: "There's a lot of good arts at the school but this is an opportunity to actually immerse the school, students and staff in the arts." "It makes our school sing," she added. angela.saini@bbc.co.uklast updated: 14/07/2008 at 16:58 SEE ALSOYou are in: London > London Local > Tower Hamlets > Work and Money > The Barbican goes to school |
