A board game is the latest device for measuring public opinion on East London's Olympic legacy.
Construction work on the Olympic Park may be well underway, but plans for what will be left after the games aren't even on the drawing board yet.听 Indeed the London Development Agency has just launched a Legacy Now Roadshow to tour the boroughs bordering the Olympic Park.听 The idea is to gather some 'blue sky thinking' from the听 public, about how the area should be after 2012.  To help stimulate the imagination and get people involved, the masterplanners have devised a game to help produce a number of legacy scenarios for the site. 听"It should be fun, it's not a sterile process" says Tom Russell, the LDA's Director for Olympic Legacy. Where can you play the game?June 25, Hackney Town Hall Square. 10 - 7pm July 5, Pride London. 9 - 6pm July 6, Youth Games Crystal Palace, 9 - 6pm 12/13 July, Newham Show Central Park, 2 - 8pm July 13, Rise Festival Finsbury Park, 12 - 8.30pm July 19, Idea Store Whitechapel 9- 6pm July 20, Green Fair, Lloyd Park, 12 - 7pm Players are asked to locate the best spot for 7,000 homes as well as the schools, green-space, work-space and shopping facilities needed to create a thriving community.听 The aim is that it should sit alongside and compliment the Olympic Park, which it's hoped will remain an international tourist attraction. The LDA maintains it is committed to taking the public's suggestions seriously and by this autumn has undertaken to publish both the results of the consultation as well as the recommendations it makes for the area.听听 There will then be a second round of consultation on the proposals.
