Met Track is a pan London project intended to keep youngsters out of trouble and into sport.听Working in partnership with the local council, 拢8000 has been allocated to provide weekly athletics sessions on friday nights.

Amir Williamson is an Olympic hopeful, hoping to qualify in the hammer category next month. Amir will also be running the weekly workshops. He says these workshops could change the lives of these youngsters. Amir Williamson says:

"I started out like some of the kids here, anti social, messing around a bit too much, getting into trouble, I then got into athletics and it changed my life. Now I'm听at university and competing for my country."

The launch event today gave the students a taster of what to expect with mini coaching sessions in sprinting, long jump, shot put, the hammer and football. The sessions also were interspersed with talks on knife crime as well as stop and search procedures.

13-year-old听Skye from听Acton High School said she learnt a lot. Skye:

"Before coming here today everyone thought bad about the police but now we know that they are just trying to help us and have a better idea of what they are trying to do."
