Brampton Manor is one of the biggest secondary schools in Newham. It is also a specialist arts college.

To mark Refugee Week, Year 9 media students were given the chance to make their own radio show.

Introduced and linked by Raymond Gyimah, the programme explores the refugee experience in the UK: from pointing out a few shocking truths to dialogues about detention centres and an interview with a respected Brampton Manor teacher who came to London as a refugee from Uganda.

Tyla Arabas is the Ethnic Minority Achievement Coordinator at Brampton Manor who has led the project. She feels it's been a valuable learning experience:Ìý

"The students found this project incredibly rewarding as they got a chance to see what work in the media field looks like. On top of that they have learnt a lot about issues that refugees and asylum seekers face when they arrive in the UK. We decided to do the radio programme for Refugee Week because we want to educate the pupils about the problems of refugees and to tackle the stigma surrounding them."
