Learners' Lounge - relax and educate yourself.Penny Wrout, 91Èȱ¬ London Communities Editor. This audio service has been created by adult learners, working with 91Èȱ¬ London, and is designed to inspire further study. What is Adult Learners' Week?Adult Learners' Week is the UK's largest festival of adult learning.Ìý In late May,Ìý learners and teachers have the chance to celebrate their achievements. During Adult Learners Week in 2008 Learner's Lounge was created.Ìý It's a collaboration between 91Èȱ¬ London and NIACE (the National Institute for Adult Continuing Education).Ìý The original idea of creating a radio service during Adult Learner's Week gave way to the thought of an on line audio service.Ìý The benefit of the change is obvious - if you miss a radio show it's gone for good, whereas a web-based service is available whenever it's convenient to listen. Eleanor Dobing, Learners' Lounge leader All the shows were devised, researched, recorded, presented and produced by adult learners.Ìý Even the name of the service came from them.Ìý Their efforts were coordinated and overseen largely by Eleanor Dobing, with a little help from some other members of the 91Èȱ¬ London team.Ìý All the volunteers put in a huge amount of effort, and for most of those involved it was their first experience of working 'in the media'. ÌýSimon Beer, from NIACE, said: "This project represents an invaluable showcase for the achievements and life-changing experiences of adult learners in London."
