Windmill: Live at La Route Du Rock

Windmill

An exquisite and imaginative London talent, Windmill combines star-gazing and shoe-gazing without a hint of mediocre middle ground...

Originally from Newport Pagnell, Matthew Thomas Dillon, aka Windmill, now resides in Ealing. A musician for twelve years, he only let his talents loose two years ago, when听 the first of his other-worldly compositions was heard in public.

Since adopting that moniker, Dillon has continued to write and record alone, playing keyboards and piano, himself. For live shows, meanwhile, he recreates the Windmill sound with session musicians, who have included members of the Earlies and Alfie.

Sounding somewhere between Jonathan Donahue's ethereal Mercury Rev and the warmth of I'm From Barcelona's harmonies, Windmill manages to strike a balance between alluring darkness and gentle pop as sweet as candy dreams.

London Calling track, Tokyo Moon, is due for release on February 18. You can pick it up on the digital download. Plus, for a sneaky peak go to Windmill's MySpace, or website where you can hear the track and watch the video in full, not to be missed.

With influences including R.E.M, The Flaming Lips, Eels and Clem Snide, it's not surprising that Dillan regards Eef Barzelay (Clem Snide) covering Windmill song Fit at Camden's KoKo as, "pretty cool". Windmill's own choices of cover have included Joy Division's Love will Tear us Apart for an iTunes EP last year and The National's Start a War, which was covered as part of a TV live session in Holland.听

Other highlights in the Windmill year book so far include last year's Rock Herk festival in Belgium. Windmill played to 5,000 people, sharing billings with The National, Patrick Watson, Vampire Weekend and The GO! Team.
