The new 'super zoom' feature on 192.com/maps claims to be a first in aerial photography, and is the equivalent of looking down from a ten story window.
Users will be able to see some of London's most famous sights and landmarks with a remarkable bird's eye view. The new service covers an area of 280 square miles of London, from the western side of Hyde Park to the Queen Elizabeth Bridge in the East, and from Stoke Newington in the North to Crystal Palace in the South. Diagonally, the area extends from Parliament Hill to Dartford and Tooting Broadway to Upminster. However, West London is unavailable due to flight restrictions around Heathrow Airport. Dominic Blackburn, technology director, at 192.com, said, "All this has been achieved only a little over a year after the launch of our mapping service." He also claimed that the photos on the 192.com service offered clearer images than those of rival services such as Google Maps, Microsoft Live Maps and Multimaps. "We are setting out to make our maps even better over the next few months with further dramatic improvements planned," said Mr Blackburn. As well as maps, 192.com is an online directory service with business and residential listings. last updated: 25/01/2008 at 15:09 You are in: London > In Pictures > Views of London > Aerial Photos of London > Eye in the London sky |
