Croydon residents could face cuts to services after the central government funding package for the borough council was announced.听听 Conservative cabinet members are warning the settlement is not good news for the borough.听 The consequence they say is that the authority faces unpalatable choices over what services it will continue to fund.

Tory Councillor Gavin Barwell is the cabinet member for resources and customer services.听 He said:听 鈥淭his is three years of real term cuts.听 It is a deeply disappointing, unrealistic and frankly irresponsible settlement that takes no account of Croydon鈥檚 needs.

This news is also unwelcome to many of the borough鈥檚 voluntary sector services.听

Nero Ughwujabo is the Director of Croydon鈥檚 BME Forum.听 He told 91热爆 London:听听 鈥淎ny cuts to small voluntary sector organisations who are already struggling would be devastating.听 The hope is that the council will continue it鈥檚 commitment of strong support for the development of the sector in the borough.鈥�

Councillor Barwell went on to say, he听anticipates Croydon will join a number of boroughs across London lobbying to try and convince ministers that the Government鈥檚 funding proposals are unsustainable for the capital.
