That鈥檚 the official statement but, when I met up with the people involved, I got the impression that this will be a much more human interest project than this suggest.听 And the more I found about the initiative the more I was convinced this description does not do this project justice. The project which is based in Croydon and funded by Heritage Lottery Fund will record the daily lives of people with learning difficulties in the borough who attended one of three large Day Centres 鈥 Waylands on Purley Way, Heavers Farm on Selhurst Road or Cherry Orchard on St. James' Road, two of which have closed 鈥 Waylands and Heavers Farm. They will be documenting their memories through a series of interviews and by interacting with each other.听 Team put their heads together In particular they will be examining the changes in service provisions to people with learning difficulties. Helen Graham is the project worker.听 I met her with some of the people taking part in the project at their first exploratory meeting.听 She explains more about the project and its importance. 鈥淭his will lead to the formation of an exhibition at the Museum of Croydon in autumn 2008.听 We will also be doing curriculum resource for schools so local schools can explore the history of people with learning difficulties鈥, explains Helen听 Hear more from Helen and see the team in preparation. Do you have any memories of any of these centres?听 Email me your pictures and memories.听 evadney.campbell@bbc.co.uk last updated: 03/01/2008 at 13:27 SEE ALSOYou are in: London > London Local > Croydon > Your Stories > 'Days Gone By'
