Dunningford Primary school is set to close next year, despite proposals from parents which could save the council millions. It鈥檚 part of plans to merge Dunningford and Ayloff primary schools next year, because of the falling birth rate in the area. Parents and teachers at Dunningford say that whilst they accept the merger, they oppose the council鈥檚 plans to close their school and build a new one on the Ayloff site. They say Ayloff has smaller playing fields, which would mean that children lose out when it comes to sports. Dunningford parents say their site could more easily accommodate both sets of students. They鈥檝e drawn up alternative proposals, which include plans to build a new swimming pool and new tennis court, for 拢5 million less than the development at Ayloff would cost. Havering council says no decision has been made and that they are considering all points of view as part of the consultation process, which goes on until July 27th.
