The cyclists say that they were promised a 34-hectare VeloPark, with full-scale mountain biking facilities, as a legacy once the Olympics were finished. "There truly is something wrong with London's Olympic plans if it can't even look after the community of people who did Olympic sport on the site where the Games are being built," said Michael Humphreys, chair of the Eastway Users Group. The cycle group also stopped at the offices of the Olympic Delivery Authority in Canary Wharf, where they say staff refused to accept their letters of objection. In 2006, before it was bulldozed, Eastway cycle circuit hosted the country's largest weekly mountain bike race series, in which six national champions competed. It was 24 hectares in size. angela.saini@bbc.co.ukYour views: "I find it beyond belief that any member of the general public, who isn't in for a financial windfall, or who isn't a resident of east London could possibly support the Olympics coming to town. Last year the cricket club that my two boys attend applied to the lottery commission to assist with financing the rebuilding of their clubhouse, as it is practically dilapidated. They asked for £17,000. They were turned down."Ìý- Freddie HÌý "The Eastway circuit served all of the London area, and many others came to ride from all over the south east on a regular basis. It was also used by cyclists who were over on business, usually on a posting to the City from overseas. We users were promised a newer, like for like replacement. After the news of the spiralling Olympic costs I guess we will not see the like of Eastway again." - Douglas Baker last updated: 01/01/2008 at 15:50 SEE ALSOYou are in: London > London Local > Newham > Spare Time > Eastway Cycle group rides to City Hall
