For a long time there was only Croydon-based multi instrumentalist Kleet. Penning, recording and mixing demos on his tod and playing live gigs on a purely acoustic basis.

Then he grew into a three-piece, joined by Chris on drums and backing vocals and Lord Eve on bass, with live shows now able to reflect the diversity of his compositions.

The first track selected for our London Calling feature, Moonlight Walking, is a gentle lament, or so Von Kleet would lull you into believing (the song stands up perfectly well as that).

But arrive at the second verse and an attention-grabbing tempo change immediately makes you sit up and take notice.

With vocals that possess the softness of Trembling Blue Stars' Bobby Wratton, Kleet also proves ballsy enough to hold his own in the more rocky sections of Funny Way, which we also featured on the show.

Von Kleet live

Fans of indie with a dollop of pop, Von Kleet include the Police, Nirvana and Madness among their influences and name Embarrassment by Camden's finest as one song they'd love to cover. Failing that, Westlife's version of Uptown Girl comes a close second, apparently.

Currently racking up the gig count, Von Kleet tell us about听 their recent performance in Sussex, where the locals were, and we quote, "well up for it!" Kleet describes the landlord as, "a spitting image of Bill Murray. He didn't say a single word ... weird."
