Croydon Commitment is the brainchild of a former local company wanting to leave a legacy.

Now dozens of local firms have joined the project resulting in the donation of thousands of pounds and man-hours to local worthwhile causes.

"Having a new minibus will enable our members to travel in greater comfort, … as often our members can be on a pickup route for anything up to two hours depending on traffic," explains Alice Bates, Lesley Park Coordinator

How does it work?

Most ofÌý the work carried out by Croydon CommitmentÌýis generally through the members' staff.Ìý

Employees are encouraged to give specific support to local charities by way of offering their expertise.Ìý

Janine Jasper Croydon Commitment's Business Broker explains: "If there's financial management in a charity that isn't up to scratch, somebody from an accountant or one of the big cheesy businesses will actually go in and help out."Ìý

But how much of this is simply 'good business and economic sense' or is corporate heads taking their social responsibility seriously? Alan Lunn works for Barclays plc.Ìý

While the company is totally committed to giving back to the areas in which it works, there are additional benefits in being a part of Croydon Commitment.Ìý

"It has mutual benefits … "if we are lucky enough to get an introduction to other businesses through our involvement with Croydon Commitment, naturally that goes towards helping ourselves and helping other people as well," says Alan.
