London Calling act The New Shapes combine the potency of New York Dolls with an adoration of Kinks style melodies. The chirpy-chooned four piece describe their sound as possessing "razor sharp edges and soft centres".

Front man Mark R comments, "As far as influences are concerned you'll hear traces of everything from The Clash to Elvis Costello to The Kinks to Led Zeppelin. The list is endless and it's all in there somewhere.

Together since 2004, the band includes Mark on vocals and guitar, backed up by Biggy (Guitar / Backing Vocals), Euan (Bass / Keyboard / Sax) and Bert (Drums / Backing Vocals)

Regular gigs throughout London have rewarded the band with some magic moments too. Mark R described playing the Borderline earlier this year as, "having a moment mid-set when I felt like one of the crowd watching on. I realised we can really play. It was an epiphany of sorts."

As well as gigging the band have now released featured track, There's No Escaping You, on on independent label Pop Records.
