A friendly watering hole with strong community spirit The Rising SunThis pub comes with a history: in 1655 the locals raised a petition stating it was leading the poor into debauchery. The Claddagh RingÌýA local favourite, this Irish theme pub features live music on Thursday, Friday and all weekend, from Celtic rock to Irish folk. If you're not part of a band and fancy your chances, you can always get on the mic with the karaoke evenings on Wednesday and Thursdays. OUTDOORSBittacy Hill ParkA lovely place for a stroll, this park also has tennis courts and a play area for kids. The Brent ReservoirAlso known as the Welsh Harp reservoir, this beautiful stretch of water is one of the area's best-kept secrets and provides a countryside oasis for city dwellers. Based on a mile long stretch of water on the borders of Brent and Barnet, the reservoir and surrounding greenery is a wildlife and conservation area home to several species of protected water birds. In recent times, it has become a venue for water-sports, with sailing, canoeing and windsurfing all year round (training and courses on a membership basis). There's a children's play area and a café too. dedicated to all things aviation Roe Green ParkA pretty walled garden and children's play area all make this a very popular hang out for adults and kids alike. Scratchwood and Moat MountScratchwood and Moat Mount form the largest area of woodland in Barnet. Scratchwood is home to areas of ancient woodland, whilst in the spring there are many woodland flowers like bluebells and wood anemones to see - look out for Muntjac deer and many woodland birds. Moat Mount also has extensive areas of woodland, much of which was once ornamental gardens and therefore has very different characteristics to Scratchwood. The woods are separated by the A1, so you cannot just cross the road from one to the other: there is an underpass down the A1 towards Apex Corner. The woods are managed with the help of annual grants from the Forestry Commission. Sunnyhill ParkSituated on an open hillside, this park has great views of the surrounding area. There's a tree-lined avenue at the entrance of the park and a very popular café.Ìý It also has good sporting facilities with tennis courts, football and cricket pitches and a children's play area. Watling ParkThere's an imposing York stone entrance to this park with a hill that leads you down to a silk stream and open views across Mill Hill. A formal rose garden nestles within the park and there is also provision for sports and ball games. ARTS & CULTUREArtsdepotThe Artsdepot is a new purpose built cultural centre for North London, offering a vibrant mix of performing and visual arts, arts related training courses and a wide range of participatory activity. The Artsdepot has two theatres, a digital production and performance space, exhibition areas and studio/ rehearsal areas. fantastic leisure facilities Church Farmhouse MuseumThis is one of the oldest surviving dwelling houses in the area: built in about 1660, it used to be the farmhouse of a hay and dairy farm until the early twentieth century. Sitting right next to Sunnyhill Park, it's now a local museum, with a permanent display of a Victorian kitchen, dining room and laundry room as well as lots of exhibitions on history, crafts and arts.
