Give 'em both barrels

Local band I Call Shotgun have just returned from Austria after winning the King of the Mountain Competition at the Snowbombing Festival.

Most bands who are less than a year into their existence are busy organising practices, trying to blag gigs and generally working out if they actually belong together as a band. That's not the case with Leeds band I Call Shotgun who certainly don't let the grass grow under their feet.

They entered the 'King of the Mountain' competition online via a snowboarding website and were picked as one of the top ten bands out of the hundreds that applied. This then was whittled down to six bands via a public vote and those lucky six outfits got a place to play at the Snowbombing Festival in Mayrhofen, Austria and battle it out for the title of King of the Mountain. The competition took place on Saturday 5 April 2008 and the band played well enough to be crowned winners that night!

As well as the kudos of winning the event and the subsequent boost to their profiles, the band were rewarded with a cheque for 2000 Euros and a brand new mobile phone each.

The standard of the bands in the final was high with some having already supported name acts such as Muse, The Kooks and The Magic Numbers. The other bands were Castro, Maxfield, Sketches, Hey Molly and Maths Class.

The band are a four piece, electro band - three of the band are students at Leeds College of Music听 and the fourth is studying at Leeds University. The line-up is Iain Bolton (Lead Guitar), Sam Holdstock (Drums), Josh Weller (Keys) and Joe De Luca (Lead Vocals)

The King Of The Mountains competition isn't their only brush with success in their short career. They were one of the Bright Young Things 2008 finalists and also appeared as one of the bands on the 91热爆 TV programme, Graham Liver Introducing.
